Admissions for medicine and dentistry are administered through the 'Stiftung für Hochschulzulassung' (SfH), the body responsible for admissions to higher education.
German nationals, as well as
- Applicants from EU Member States,
- Nationals of Lichtenstein, Norway and Iceland,
- Foreign applicants with a German high school qualification (Abitur) obtained in Germany or at a German school abroad,
- Applicants who are not nationals of an EU Member State, Norway, Iceland or Lichtenstein, but whose family members do fall into this category (first degree relatives) and are employed in Germany,
must submit their applications for courses with entrance requirements/restrictions (numerus clausus) to the 'Stiftung für Hochschulzulassung (SfH)'. These applicants may only apply for courses with entrance requirements, i.e. either Medicine or Dentistry.
German citizens with dual nationality must apply as a German national.

Medicine and Dentistry courses do not offer special admission quotas for applicants who are under 19 years of age at the time of applying. State legislation only applies to degree courses which are subject to restricted admission at the local level.
For information pertaining to applicants not belonging to any of the above-named categories, please click here.
Key dates for applications
Applications for winter semester entry: If the applicant’s entrance qualification was awarded before 16 January of the intended year of entry, SfH must be in receipt of their application by 31 May; in all other cases by 15 July (application deadlines).
Applications for summer semester entry: by 15.01. of the year of entry (application deadline).
The option of applying directly to Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin is not available. Applicants wishing to be entered into the university selection process must apply via the ‘Stiftung für Hochschulzulassung (SfH)’, the body responsible for admissions to higher education. Both offers and rejections are issued by the SfH.
Should you decide to not accept your offer, there is no need to inform the university directly. Your place will then be reallocated as part of the next stage of the SfH allocation process.
Should you receive an offer before the completion of your military or alternative civilian service, you will be unable to accept this offer. However, you will be entitled to be reentered into the selection process at the end of your period of service. At that point, you will need to reapply via Hochschulstart.de, providing the relevant proof of service. Please note that you will forfeit this entitlement unless your application is received by the second deadline after the end of your service.
