Back to Overview

You are here:

Since his admission last weekend, Pyotr Verzilov has been receiving treatment at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin Charité provided an update on his condition and treatment at a press conference on September 18, 2018.

The patient was admitted to Charité with symptoms of poisoning and in a state of confusion. After admission, Pyotr Verzilov underwent a thorough examination, and is now receiving treatment in an intensive care unit.

Prof. Dr. Karl Max Einhäupl, Charité’s Chief Executive Officer: “Pyotr Verzilov’s health is improving daily and he is no longer at risk. We are confident he will make a full recovery.” He adds: “Our colleagues in Moscow provided good initial treatment and have been very cooperative.”

Prof. Dr. Kai-Uwe Eckardt, Head of the Medical Clinic, Division of Nephrology and Internal Intensive Care Medicine: “We are now working on the assumption that he was poisoned nearly a week ago. Clinical findings suggest a particular group of substances was involved, but the substance itself remains unknown. Following consultation with toxicology experts, we have initiated a broad range of tests.”

It is not certain how much longer the patient will need to remain in hospital, though this is likely to become clear over the next few days.
