Felix Balzer studied medicine and computer science with stays abroad in Paris and at Weill Cornell University in New York. After obtaining his doctorate degree (MD) in Medical Informatics at Albert-Ludwigs-University in Freiburg, he began his residency at Charité in 2009 and received the venia legendi in experimental anesthesiology in 2015. One year later, he received the certificate “Medical Informatics" (GMDS/GI/BVMI.) In 2017, he was recognized as a specialist in anesthesiology and received a PhD at the Institute of Computer Science at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. In 2018, he took up the endowed professorship for E-Health and Shared Decision Allocation at the Einstein Center Digital Future (ECDF). In January 2021, he became full professor for Medical Data Science and director of Charité's Institute of Medical Informatics. As Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO), he is responsible for the digitalization of patient care at Charité.
