Collaborative Outcomes Study on Health and Functioning During Infection TimesShort title
Both the COVID-19 pandemic and quarantine measures can have a significant impact on the physical and mental health of the general population as well as on the health workers involved in the treatment of COVID-19 infected patients. The objective of this study is to assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting quarantine measures on the physical and mental health of the general population and health care workers.
Our hypothesis is that the physical and mental well-being of the general population and health care workers who work with COVID-19 infected persons is strongly influenced by COVID-19, but that there are both protective and risk factors that could provide information on possible mental health strategies after the pandemic or for future preventive measures should a pandemic strike again.
COH-FIT, led by Prof. Christoph U Correll, Charité University, Berlin, Germany, and Marco Solmi, Padua University, Italy, and developed together with >200 collaborators/ stakeholders, targets together with the German Co-PI Prof. Dr. Dirk Brockmann 2000 representatively sampled adult respondents from the German population using a mixed sampling approach (50% random cell-phone and landline sampling, supplemented by 50% targeted online sampling) plus approximately 5000 German respondents reached via traditional and social media and individual networks, as well as >50,000 respondents from >30 countries internationally participating in the COH-FIT project. The survey will focus on mental well-being (WHO-5 well-being index, primary outcome) as well as a composite of transdiagnostic mental health symptoms (key secondary outcome) plus additional secondary outcomes, including physical and mental health symptoms and behaviours, treatment/medication adherence, access to care, and coping strategies.
