Prof. Dr. Angelika Eggert has been awarded the Wilhelm Warner Foundation's Wilhelm Warner Prize 2017, in recognition of her achievements in the field of cancer research and the treatment of patients with neuroblastoma. A pediatric specialist, Prof. Eggert has been Head of the Department of Pediatrics, Oncology and Hematology Unit on Campus Virchow-Klinikum since 2013. She is also the German Cancer Consortium's (DKTK) spokesperson for Berlin.

Prof. Eggert’s long-standing research into the molecular pathogenesis of neuroblastoma and the use of precision medicine approaches in its treatment has led to new strategies in the diagnosis and treatment of one of the most common childhood cancers. Under the joint leadership of Prof. Eggert and colleagues from the Köln and Greifswald university hospitals, the German Neuroblastoma Study Group is now planning to conduct clinical studies aimed at further developing these strategies.

The Wilhelm Warner Foundation was established in 1961. Its eponymous prize, worth €10,000, is awarded annually to renowned researchers from the German-speaking countries. It is awarded in recognition of outstanding achievements in the fields of cancer research and treatment.
