The EU's framework programs for research (referred to as 'FP' in English and 'RP' in German) represent the most important funding instrument currently available for research within the EU.
The programs were started with the aim of strengthening the technology and research foundations of the European industrial sector, and to improve its international competitiveness. One of their primary aims is to synchronize and concentrate the uncoordinated and severely fragmented research efforts currently found in Europe.
