8.   Objectives:                     To provide a state-of-the-art update on recent developments in vaccinology and to assist health professionals 
            in the design, planning, implementation and critical appraisal of immunisation programmes worldwide

           

9.   Content:                          Basics in immunology, key bacterial and viral diseases, epidemiology of clinical trials, ethical issues, vaccine 
            types, combined vaccines, WHO vaccination programmes e.g. polio eradication, MMR prevention,  
            implementation of immunisation programmes, logistics, vaccine cold chain management, vaccine
            registration, vaccine production including visit of GSK production plant, adverse event monitoring and
            reporting, post-marketing surveillance, future vaccine developments

12. Assessment
      procedures:                    5-page written paper on topic related to vaccinology in participants' country of origin

 

13. Prerequisites:                 The course is open to medical doctors and senior health professionals with an interest and experience in 
                                                vaccinology

 

14. Attendance:                     Maximum number of students: 30

 

15. Selection criteria:           Preferential admission of tropEd Masters students.
