The aim of this project is the development of a kinetic model describing the interrelation between the metabolism of carbohydrate and lipids in hepatocytes under conditions of excessive nutrient supply.
From our VLN partner groups, we require the following experimental and theoretical input:
- Expression profiles of metabolic enzymes in hepatocytes from normal and fatty livers
- Concentration of key metabolites in hepatocytes of normal and fatty livers
Milestones:
- Extension of the existing kinetic model of glucose metabolism by including the TCA cycle, ox. phosphorylation, ß-oxidation, fatty acid synthesis and TG synthesis
- Model simulations based on experimental data obtained in various animal models
This project is part of Virtual Liver, a major national initiative funded by the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF) and is connected to WP subprojects A1.1, A1.2, and A1.3.
