P 4.1 Central Data Management for the HepatoSys Network

An important goal of the HepatoSys network is the development of a central data management system for all types of data that arise in connection with systems biology research within the network. This task is realized by the central data management at the MPI Magdeburg, which is also home to the database server. The database comprises software products by Genedata for the storage of experimental resuts as well as for storing information about the investigated genes, mRNAs, proteins, and signal pathways. Genedata has developed a new model block for the exchange of models. The database will be further developed in order that a larger variety of data can be stored and managed. An important prerequisite is prior standardization of the corresponding data.

The database for HepatoSys is supposed to:

  • allow a comprehensive storage and queryable presentation of (related) experimental, model and simulation data together with links to external data sources,
  • allow exchange of data easily among all investigators of HepatoSys,
  • present selected data to the scientific community in a queryable and downloadable format.

The database: general information

  • Access to the database for up to 100 named users according to the license agreement with Genedata.
  • Perpetual license for Expressionist and Phylosopher.
  • Current versions of Expressionist and Phylosopher:
    • Phylosopher 6.5 (upgrade from 6.0 and 6.2)
    • Expressionist 4.0 (upgrade from 2.0, 3.0 and 3.1)
  • Access to Expressionist occurs via a terminal server (NoMachine, current version: 3.2).
  • The model block is accessible for HepatoSys since 10/2007.
  • Access to the database have about 90 HepatoSys members.
