The role of Cdk5rap2 in the development of brain malformations

Project Leader: Angela Kaindl e-mail

The cyclin-dependant kinase 5 regulatory associated protein 2 (Cdk5rap2) plays a role in acquired and hereditary brain malformations. Cdk5rap2 is an indirect inhibitor of CDK5 and is important for centrosome function. Moreover, Cdk5rap2 functions beyond inhibition of CDK5 are suggested by the human phenotype due to homozygous Cdk5rap2 gene mutations. To better understand the role of Cdk5rap2 in the pathogenesis of brain malformations, we will characterize the physiologic regulation of Cdk5rap2 throughout brain development and analyze the effect of Cdk5rap2 malfunction or dysregulation on developmental processes.
