MedSeC Project: Apparent Diffusion Coefficient Analysis

Approach

Initial CT (left) and MR image (right) of a patient who suffered a stroke. The MR image was acquired with a special MR technique (navigated diffusion imaging) that is able to display ischemic regions at a time when standard T2-weighted images do not detect the infarct (see below).

Measurement techniques

 
 
Problem: 

diffusion sequences are extremely motion sensitive

Solutions: 
  • correction of the motion artifacts using navigator echo (see corrected image above)
  • rapid imaging (echo planar imaging, EPI, see below)
