Our profile
  

Main research topics of the Institute of Clinical Physiology are the tight junction and membrane channel molecules of the "intelligent borders of the body", the epithelia.
  

We perform basic research as well as research related to diseases of the intestines, kidneys, and eyes.
  

Methods are molecular biological, electrophysiological, biophysical, laser scanning fluorescence microscopical, and freeze fracture EM.

  

Our main grants are from the German Reseach Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft): Research Unit FOR 721 (Coordinator and 4 projects), Collaborative Research Center SFB 852 (1 project), and Personal Research Grants.
  

We perform numerous joint research projects with colleagues from clinical departments, some of which are fulltime in our lab (Fulltime associates*).

History

The institute was founded in 1969 and chaired until 1995 by Prof. Klaus Hierholzer († 11.02.2007),
followed by Prof. Michael Wiederholt. Other retired professors are Prof. Ulrich Hegel and Prof. Hans Ebel.
Since 2002 the institute is chaired by Prof. Michael Fromm.
