- The European Intestinal Transport Group (EITG) is an international association of
scientists devoted to experimental research on gastrointestinal transport and related
function. Thus, the members come from all sorts of biomedical research institutions, e.g.
Physiology, Biology, Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Veterinary Medicine, Zoology,
Gastroenterology, Nutrition Research, Pharmaceutical Industry, and more.
- The main activity of the group is to promote international scientific meetings on
gastrointestinal transport, which are held every 1½ year (Spring or Fall) in different
European countries (see list of meetings). Each meeting
is organized independently and financed from conference fees and sponsorship.
- The EITG-meetings provide a forum for well-known scientists as well as for young
investigators. The meetings are informal but mean hard work. However, the locations are
selected in a way that they are attractive also for spouses and children.
- The executive board of the EITG consists of 3 persons: the organizers of the coming, the
last, and the future meeting, respectively. Presently, the executive board consists of Pilar
Lostao, Joerg Aschenbach, and Giuditta
Perozzi.
- There is no fee-based membership of the EITG. Scientists interested in getting the
circulars of the EITG may submit their address to Michael
Fromm, who serves as a permanent secretary general. Of course, also researchers from
outside Europe are cordially welcome.
- The plenum of the 19th meeting appointed Francisco
"Paco" Alvarado "Honorary Member of the EITG" in order to pay
tribute to his outstanding commitment and continuous promotion of the EITG for more than
25 years.
