Bachelor in Health Sciences

In October 2011 the Institute of Health Sciences Education and Nursing Science at the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin will start a new post-registration bachelor program in Health Sciences for Nurses, Midwives and Physiotherapists, Speech Therapists and Occupational Therapists. The bachelor's in Health Sciences is a three-year program with 180 Credits following the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). The multi-professional program taught in German integrates a variety of scientific perspectives to gain a holistic overview of health sciences.

A graduate of this Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree program will be prepared with a solid qualification in research methods and in many of the practical skills needed to succeed in a variety of health care careers. The Bachelor of Health Sciences provides a broad overview of healthcare and is particularly suited to students who intend to enter the non-clinical health workforce (e.g. health promotion, health management, health counseling). Graduates of the bachelor’s are also prepared to enroll in a postgraduate professional degree program e.g. in Public Health, Epidemiology, Health Care Management or Health Professions Education.

Furthermore, a new Master for Health Profession Education will be established in fall 2014, replacing the traditional University Diploma Program “Medical Education and Nursing Education”. The two-year master’s with 120 Credits following the ECTS will have a strong focus on pedagogics, psychology, didactics and other related fields relevant for a career in the field of health professions education. Graduates will be prepared for working as medical, allied health professions or nurse educator in different settings of the German health care and education system.
