This international research orientated course takes an in depth and specialized approach to Neurosciences providing graduates with excellent preparation for scientific based careers in this field. The interdisciplinary nature of the course does however make the course suitable for alternative career choices. The training has both theoretical and practical components (laboratory based). In 2008 the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the German Science Association listed this course as being one of the
top 10 international masters courses on offer at German universities.
The program's research fields range from molecular to systems neurosciences with an emphasis on clinical aspects and bench to bedside translation. Students spend most of their time on their research project as active members of their group. By choosing a research group and project, students develop their individual research focus and expertise. In addition, program participants complete a complementary curriculum and acquire a certain breadth in the field. They interact with fellow students, participate in PhD training sessions, and attend courses or lecture series featuring prominent German and international guest speakers and present their own research findings at international conferences.
Serving as the training unit of the Cluster of Excellence NeuroCure (www.neurocure.de), the program integrates research groups at Charité as well as neuroscientists at Humboldt- and Freie Universität and at a number of non-university based research centers such as the Max-Delbrück-Center for Molecular Medicine, the Max-Planck-Institute for Human Development, or the Leibniz Research Center for Molecular Pharmacology.
