Approximately every fifth woman suffers abuse in marriage, family or partnership. Every seventh woman is raped by her partner. Violence causes sickness – the women sustain both visible and invisible physical and emotional injuries.

Consequences of maltreatment include hematomas, fractures, stab wounds, burns, lacerations, physical and mental exhaustion, nervousness, anxiety, depressions, alcoholism, psychosomatic illnesses, poverty and homelessness.

We are open-eyed:

– A medical facility is often the first contact point for women who have become victims of domestic violence.

In the Emergency Medical Services of the Charité, we provide you with information and counselling in addition to quality medical care. Our specially trained staff will give you gentle and full attention. If you signalize that you want us to help you, we will try to find a solution to your problems.

We offer you:

  • Medical care
  • Domestic violence staff
  • Documentation for use in court, if requested
  • Counselling and information regarding other help available
  • Arrangements for a secure shelter, if required

The aim of the S.I.G.N.A.L. Intervention Program in the Emergency Medical Services of the Charité is professional and high-quality care, support and removal of taboos when addressing the issue of violence towards women.
