The chief management body of the Charité, the Board of Directors, makes stategic decisions and directs operations. The Dean, who is responsible for all matters regarding research and teaching, is both a member of the Board and head of the Faculty Board. The Clinical Director is responsible for the entire area of medical care and is, likewise, a Board member. In addition, the Clinical Director heads the Clinical Center Management.
The Berlin university medical law (Berliner Universitätsmedizingesetz) of 2005 requires the establishment of a Supervisory Board to advise the Board of Directors as well as to monitor the finances and the quality of the teaching and research conducted at the Charité.
