More than 50 percent of the Berlin State subsidy is awarded according to performance. The Charité educates 7,265 students.

The Charité is the speaker institution of four excellence projects and 10 collaborative research centers of the German Research Foundation (DFG) and is also involved in six other collaborative research centers. 

The Charité has also assumed the speaker function for six clinical research groups, five research groups and four Graduiertenkollegs (university graduate training programs) of the German Research Foundation as well as two competence centers of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).

In addition, the Charité is speaker institution for the BMBF-funded integrated Berlin Research and Treatment Center for Stroke Research.
