Steeped in tradition between the historical paediatric clinic and the Max-Planck's institute of infection biology, the preclinical fields concentrated in research and education will be located together in the new building. The successful cluster in the initiative of excellency of the Charité, "NeuroCure", will find excellent conditions to further their work. As part of a master plan the project was begun at the end of May, 2009 with the demolition of the old buildings. The governing mayor of Berlin, Klaus Wowereit took part in the Ground-breaking ceremony on the 25th of September.
You can follow the current status of the construction project with this

The auditorium established around 1900 in the north wing of the internal medicine department is being remodelled as a multi-disciplinary specialised imaging centre. Initially, three high performance-Tomographs are also being installed. The experimental Radiology department of the Charité does research at two levels in the areas of molecular imaging and MR-Elastographie. On two other floors the Bernstein-Center of the Humboldt University examines the cognitive-neuro-scientific MRT / fMRT basics and the Excellence cluster Neurocure of the Charité pursues basic clinical-neuro-scientific research.
The project is financed by the Federal Ministry of education and research, the German research council and the economic stimulus package II of the Federal Government.
