Training Program
The scientific training will educate the fellows in their specific field of study including the necessary methods and techniques to carry out thier research. This is guaranteed by embedding the young researcher into a research group under the supervision of a project leader and with special mentoring of a second, academic advisor from another participating cortex program. This is a highly individualized and specialized training focusing on a narrowed topic and aiming at producing a high impact dissertation.
This scientific in-depth training will be complimented by in breadth training in the form of 2 annual cortex PhD training weeks. Here all students will come together for intensive seminars in neuroscience topics that are not necessarily connected to their specific project, but that cover the various sub-disciplines of the field from molecular bases to cognition, imaging, and clinical. It is into these training weeks, too, that complementary skills classes will be integrated. The session will be hosted and organized in rotation by the partner schools of the network. Furthermore, the early stage fellows have year round full access to the scientific training offered locally by each of the graduate schools. Lectures, method courses, colloquia and symposia are all open to them, as well as the libraries and other training infrastructure.
