Our department

Since October 1st 2005 our joint department consists of more than 200 physicians. Approximately 100,000 patients per year confide in our department. We are responsible for nearly 50,000 anesthetics per year, for 5 intensive care units, for 2 pain clinics, for one interdisciplinary pain therapy unit, for one interdisciplinary emergency room and we staff and direct one emergency ambulance of the Berlin fire department. Furthermore we work in a "north association emergency medicine" together with the German federal armed forces (Bundeswehr) and the air rescue in Senftenberg.

Our department is highly engaged in research and teaching. According to the student evaluation of the teaching from all departments of the Charité for years we rank on top positions of the medical school (currently number 1). In research we yearly achieve an impact factor of more than 150 and a citation index of ca. 1,500 in the last 5 years. Altogether 7 externally funded projects are publicly supported. Through the merger of our two departments significant synergies were achieved in regards of patient care, research and teaching. Through a planned comprehensive teaching concept, through common standards and a common comprehensive quality management the ground is prepared for a hybrid value-adding chain, in terms of permanently improving the patient oriented care that find national as well as international recognition.
