Prof. Affeld and Dr. Kertzscher are two of the winners of 2006's competition “Innovation in Medical Technology”, sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research link. Federal Minister, Dr. Schavan, presented the prize to the winners. The funding of 300,000 Euros is intended for the development of a foldable ring, that permits the suture-less implantation of a cardiac valve.
