PhD-Project

" Mechanisms of presynaptic inhibition on hippocampal neurons"

Synopsis

Neurotransmitter release from presynaptic terminals is under tight control of various metabotropic receptors. The common model for presynaptic inhibition is a G-protein dependent inhibition of voltage gated calcium channels. The aim of my PhD project is to investigate whether and to what extent other signaling pathways contribute to the inhibition of neurotransmitter release. I use whole cell patch clamp recordings in both acute hippocampal slice preparations as well neuronal cell cultures to study presynaptic inhibition by the metabotropic GABAB receptor on glutamatergic synapses.
